San Diego, CA (preferred) | Freelance / Contract Kingz Kimonos is a U.S.-based premium Jiu-Jitsu brand headquartered in San Diego, California. Since 2011, we’ve elevated the global BJJ community through innovative products, athlete partnerships, and educational content that promotes discipline, inclusivity, and athletic excellence. We’re looking for a Copywriter & Copy Editor ideally someone with firsthand knowledge of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and familiarity with the competition scene — to help shape our brand voice and storytelling. This role plays a vital part in connecting our products and athletes with the global Jiu-Jitsu community. You’ll craft compelling content that reflects the spirit of the sport, bridges culture and commerce, and supports Kingz’s mission to strengthen the presence of Jiu-Jitsu within the U.S. economy and global sports industry. Key Responsibilities

• Write and edit website content, product descriptions, news and blog articles, email newsletters, and social media copy.
• Ensure tone, language, and accuracy align with the Kingz brand voice and the Jiu-Jitsu community.
• Collaborate closely with the marketing, creative, and athlete management teams, as well as our outsourced SEO and email marketing partners, to maintain consistency in messaging and search optimization.
• Edit for clarity, flow, and engagement, ensuring both brand and SEO goals are met.
• Support content creation for product launches, athlete stories, and community initiatives.
• Maintain and evolve written guidelines and style consistency across all platforms.

What We’re Looking For

• Proven experience as a copywriter, editor, or content writer (preferably in sports, lifestyle, or e-commerce).
• Excellent grammar, attention to detail, and ability to adapt voice across different content types.
• Strong knowledge of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, including terminology, community culture, and the competition scene.
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with internal teams and external partners.
• Based in San Diego or surrounding areas, or available for occasional in-person collaboration (preferred at our San Diego headquarters).

Bonus Skills

• Experience working with Shopify or other e-commerce platforms.
• Knowledge of SEO copywriting, keyword optimization, and analytics reporting.
• Background in martial arts journalism, athlete storytelling, or brand development.
• Experience in digital marketing strategy and cross-functional content planning.
