Junior Building Engineer

Role Overview:

The Building Engineer supports the Facilities and Capital Projects team in the execution of building upgrades, renovations, and infrastructure improvements. This entry-level role focuses on assisting with project documentation, coordination, and operational readiness while gaining hands-on experience in facilities engineering and construction oversight.

Core Responsibilities:

Project Documentation & Controls

  • Assist in organizing and maintaining project files, including funding requests, approvals, and reports.
  • Help track work orders, purchase orders, and invoices under supervision.
  • Learn internal documentation standards (e.g., Sole Source Justifications, EG2501 forms).
  • Support the creation of basic project status summaries and reports.

Design & Planning Coordination

  • Participate in design review meetings as a note-taker and observer.
  • Help gather input from IT, Security, and Facilities teams during early design phases.
  • Learn how to evaluate design documents for operational fit and scope clarity.

Pre-Construction Readiness

  • Assist in scheduling and preparing for pre-construction meetings.
  • Help identify potential impacts to facility operations (e.g., noise, access restrictions).
  • Support internal communications through signage, email drafts, and meeting coordination.

Construction Oversight

  • Shadow Project Managers during punch list walkthroughs and system testing.
  • Help document change orders and track cost impacts.
  • Assist in coordinating training sessions for facilities staff on new systems.

Turnover & Post-Construction

  • Help collect and organize final deliverables such as warranties, service agreements, and contact lists.
  • Assist in setting up lock/key systems and warranty tracking tools.
  • Participate in post-construction walkthroughs and help compile feedback.
  • Support the archiving of final project documentation (e.g., as-built drawings, O&M manuals).

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Recent graduate or early-career professional in engineering, construction management, or facilities operations.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Eagerness to learn and contribute to a collaborative team environment.
  • Basic familiarity with CAD, Excel, or project tracking tools is a plus.
