Job Description

Job Title: Lead Medical Technologist I

Location: Tulsa, OK 74133

Position Type: Direct Hire

Schedule:

Evening Shift – 3x12-hour shifts/week (rotating holidays and weekends)

Hours: 36 hours/week

Pay Range: $29.89 – $44.84/hour

Incentives: $5,000 sign-on bonus and $2,500 relocation assistance (if eligible)

Experience Required: Minimum 1 year of high-complexity testing

Education Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or related Biological/Chemical Science

Certification Required: ASCP MLS or equivalent national certification

Job Summary:

The Lead Medical Technologist I is responsible for performing high-complexity medical laboratory testing and designated supervisory duties. This role ensures accurate specimen processing, testing, and reporting while maintaining compliance with quality assurance standards and supporting departmental efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Receive, prioritize, and process specimens to meet turnaround time standards
  • Verify specimen identification and labeling; assess acceptability for analysis
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies, documenting for quality assurance
  • Perform blood component processing and transfusion documentation (BB only)
  • Maintain inventory and ensure appropriate blood component usage
  • Conduct testing according to established procedures and repeat tests as needed for accuracy
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment, using PPE and physical barriers appropriately
  • Work independently with minimal supervision and assist colleagues during high-volume periods
  • Utilize laboratory information systems (e.g., TSIS) to record results and comments
  • Report accurate test results and ensure timely documentation
  • Review specimen logs and follow up on unreceived specimens
  • Demonstrate technical knowledge and efficiency in both routine and complex testing scenarios

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in high-complexity laboratory testing
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills
  • Proficient in basic PC skills and data entry
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work efficiently under pressure
