POSITION SUMMARY:

The Live Exhibit Lead will work onsite at our store in Springfield, MO. and provides husbandry care for the animals housed at the store and executes related work to maintain the exhibits. The Lead Aquarist also assists Supervisor with daily efficiency and productivity of the live exhibits staff and maintenance program for Live Exhibits. Assists Supervisor in constant refinement of maintenance schedule, maintaining a show quality environment of the exhibits and their residents, ensuring consistency and quality in the fish feeding shows.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Maintains daily productivity and efficiency of staff.
• Assists Supervisor in projects and special assignments.
• Assists Supervisor in prioritizing important projects in reference to scheduling.
• Assists in training of new staff.
• Maintains a show quality environment for the animals.
• Maintains all reporting on portal, i.e. water quality, census etc.

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum Degree Required: High School Diploma or equivalent
• Certificate(s) or License(s): Certified Scuba diver (must provide copy of dive certification), Certified First Aid / CPR, Class E drivers license
• Experience: Minimum 1 year experience in aquarium operations or related field, some mechanical and plumbing experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY:

• Leadership skills
• Problem solving and task coordination skills
• Ability to observe and act upon relevant changes in animal behaviors and conditions
• Understanding of practical principles of animal behavior and the ability to work with live animals safely
• Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Computer skills using Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• Ability to work flexible schedule that includes weekends, evenings and holidays

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

• N/A

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Regular walking, standing, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, lifting up to 50lbs, etc.

INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENT

:

• Performs tasks and duties under general supervision, using established procedures and innovation. Chooses from limited alternatives to resolve problems. Occasional independent judgment is required to complete work assignments. Often makes recommendations to work procedures, policies, and practices.
